Depression is a common mental disorder, characterized by sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, feelings of tiredness, and poor concentration. At its worst, depression can lead to suicide.

Depression affects more than 350 million people of all ages, in all communities, and is a significant contributor to the global burden of disease. 

Although there are known effective treatments for depression, access to treatment is still a problem in most countries.

The burden of depression and other mental health conditions is on the rise globally. Therefore, it is crucial to recognize depression, to get help and to be helped.
