A call for an international apology from all psychiatric professions and services to all indigenous peoples

Historically, psychiatric professionals have dominated the lives of people with mental illnesses. Since colonial settlement indigenous Australians have been the victims of misdiagnosis and disproportionate incarceration in mental health institutions.

This text was initiated as a case for an apology including suggestions for a Draft Apology for consideration by the board of the Mental Health Professionals Association of Australia. Parts of this text and interviews on the basis of it were quoted and published in the Australian media in 2011-2012.
